Phillips close to filling out his staff

The Texans will interview current Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring Tuesday after naming Vance Joseph defensive backs coach last week. Herring was a member of Wade Phillips' coaching staff from 2008-2010 and also Dom Capers' linebackers coach in Houston in 2002-03. Under Herring's watch, Demarcus Ware notched a 20-sack season in 2008 and added 16 sacks in 2010. It would be Herring's job to find out who plays inside and at rush linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. Going into 2011, it seems as if the rehabbing DeMeco Ryans is the only linebacker guaranteed of a position going into training camp, with Connor Barwin looking to bounce back from injury and Brian Cushing trying to put his PED suspension and inconsistent 12-game season behind him.
